Go Pro Curls with Larry Sims

For four years, Larry Sims has collaborated with Smooth n' Shine to create his very own hair care line called, GO Pro Curls with Larry Sims. This line will cater to us curly girls with wavy textured hair.

Larry Sims knows what he's doing, his celebrity client list is a mile long and he can be seen featured on Tamar & Vince's reality show. Tamar employs Larry Sims in her Glam Squad.

Larry said in an interview, “It’s not about being so perfect. It’s not about being so bone-straight. It’s not about not having any fly-aways. You know, texture is inviting. We’re all embracing it—across the board from everyday women to actresses to musicians to fashion”.

“We wanted to make sure we created a treat for you hair. It’s sweets for your hair, it’s desserts for your hair. You’re satisfying your hair’s sweet tooth with being able to use some of these products,” explains Sims. The gels “enhance” the natural curl and moisturize the hair. 

These products will be available in a drug store near you ranging in price not to exceed $13.

My All Natural Homemade Pomade HAIR GREASE

I made several different batches of an all natural pomade, hair grease (hence the different colors). I wanted to oil my scalp with an oil that wasn't so messy but I didn't want a store bought pomade that is full of petroleum.  I didn't measure anything I just melted coconut oil and mixed it with grape seed, castor, olive, and palm oil. I poured  the combined melted ingredients into empty rubber band containers (reuse, recycle...lol) and refrigerated over night. The coconut oil and palm oil solidified the mixture creating a pomade/hair grease consistency. The oils are virgin and unrefined so the scent is very mild, almost non-existent. Palm oil is giving the orange/red orange color seen in the pictures. 

Sorry no exact recipe, I am a "a little this, a little that" kinda gal. I rarely  measure anything. lol 

Excuse the dents, I had to check to make sure it was completely solid.

This batch turned out darker because I put more palm oil in it than the previous containers.

This concoction would work with pretty much any of your favorite oils, the coconut oil is what makes the whole recipe come together because the others are all liquid.

Natural Hair ||Why is Protective Styling Important?

Its Summertime so the kids are home for the summer. We go swimming, to spraygrounds, sprinklers, and anything else we can play in to stay cool. During the week we keep our hair twisted/braided up and tucked away..then I take it down to style on the weekends. My daughters and I have alot of hair and its mandatory that we wear protective styles to prevent breakage and excessive shedding. Protective styles also help retain moisture and increases growth. I have added a video below on protective styles that has some good info. Check it Out!!

When was your last trim? Trimming Natural Hair

My hair was starting to look raggedy on the ends. I tried moisturizing and sealing the ends of my hair to no avail. That was when I knew my hair was overdue for a trim. I clip my ends every few months because frayed ends drives me nuts. Not only that but my hair grows so much faster when my ends are clipped. 

When my hair was relaxed I preferred to cut my hair when it was wet. Now that my hair is in its natural state I detangle my hair and put about six chunky twists and clip off the dead hair. I know its not the best method but it works for me. lol...  Some naturalistas blow dry their hair before clipping while other sistas go get their hair professionally cut.

You may need to clip your ends if:

* Excessive shedding

*If your hair breaks easily

*You style your often and wear your hair down often

*Slow/No growth

*Feathered ends

*If you use heat on your hair often

Non-Natural Color on Natural Hair...

DISCLAIMER: My hair is in its natural state, I BC'd in August 2008. I am happy to be nappy! However, I do not profess to be the kind of 'natural' who will use nothing but organic products made only by juices and berries. I strive to purchase products that are sulfate & paraben free but occasionally I may use product(s) that aren't necessarily Curly Girl Approved.  No shame in my game whatsoever... It's just not that serious for me, no one will take my "natural card" away for using certain products on MY hair. Try to limit products with harsh chemicals, dyes, cones, and alcohol but don't loose any sleep if you do, OCCASIONALLY.

I purchased all of these supplies from Sally's except the Miss Jessies..

I mixed the powder packet with the cream... I applied the product and in 5 minutes the color was already changing. 

The fumes are intense so make sure its plenty of ventilation...

These are the results after washing, conditioning, moisturizing, oiling and twisting my hair.. I only colored a small section of my hair..

This is a 5 day old twist out..

These twists were done 2 weeks later after washing and a oil rinse, Color treated hair requires alot more moisture to prevent breakage. I only have color on the right side of my hair. My plan is to put a plum/berry color on in a few weeks. The color will be more vivid on the lightened parts...

I will follow up with pics after I add the berry color. I am still undecided on the exact color I want to use.
